I’m not a prude, far from it. However, I do NOT appreciate cursing, swearing, nudity or graphic violence. I’m one of those who believes that when it comes to our minds, garbage in-garbage out, especially when it comes to my movie and DVD choices.
I have absolutely no control over what film producers create in their artistic form. I do have a choice in what I allow to be presented in my home! I recently purchased a ClearPlay DVD player for my home. It works because it does NOTHING to the actual film or DVD, it simply allows me to filter out all the crap that some would call art or “artistic expression”. Just as movie producers filter out “f-bombs” from their airline editions, my ClearPlay filter eliminates the language, sex, and nudity from my home’s “big screen” (sadly it’s only 56″ wide–and I’m not complaining).
I put the player’s filtering tool to the test with one of my favorite films, Love Actually. I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve seen the unedited version. I’ve also watched edited DVDs by Clean Flicks–still online, but they don’t offer edited movies any more (and other companies sued out of business, e.g. Family Video). The edited, burned DVDs lost some of the quality of a REAL DVD. Some of the editing was poorly done. With the ClearPlay player, I simply put in my original Love Actually DVD and let it play. I didn’t miss any of the storyline (except the two X-rated actors who didn’t affect the main stories and characters in the movie) and I certainly didn’t miss any of the cursing and scenes which didn’t enhance (they actually detracted from) the stories either. Now I love the movie!
I appreciate the fact that I don’t have to cringe whenever I’m watching a movie with my family because there’s a scene or word that I missed with the FF or mute buttons in a film. I now don’t have to think about it and I don’t have to be shocked by the only F-word in favorite movies like Hitch which I really like. 
Anyway, if you’re looking for a solution which has worked for thousands of people who don’t appreciate EVERYTHING Hollywood produces, but you still love movies, you might just want to give ClearPlay a shot. They’re updating their filtering solution daily to keep up with the newest releases. I think I’ll like the productions better at home every time!

I think it is a great idea. My concern is that others have tried it and have run into copyright issues with Hollywood, if you can get by that hurdle you have a product.

This is a marvelous idea! If it’s as successful as it sounds, other DVD player companies will have to compete!
ClearPlay is as good as advertised. It also does NOT change the DVD and has withstood court challenges. They have some great video explanations on their web site regarding how it works, and why it doesn’t violate copyright laws.
Clearplay really is amazing! You miss all the Swearing and Suggestive Stuff without losing the storyline at all!
